Single Car Accident Leads to Second Car Injuries

Sometimes you don’t even have to actually be in a motor vehicle accident to suffer the consequences. A recent incident in Toronto’s west end Junction neighbourhood sent four people from two vehicles to hospital, including a police officer.

On a recent weekend at 2 a.m., a car smashed into a pole at St. Clair West and Old Weston Road. Technically, it was a single vehicle accident, however the vehicle broke apart and car parts from the crash scattered metal and glass all over the street and into a police cruiser that was down the road. Three people from the car and one of the police officers ended up in hospital with injuries that ranged from minor to serious.

You Can Do Everything Right…

There would certainly be no issue of fault on the part of the police or any other vehicle and driver caught in that kind of situation, but the effects of a motor vehicle accident come with the luck of the draw, unfortunately, and not from who’s ‘right’ or who’s ‘wrong’. You may be doing everything right and in fact you may not even be part of the initial car crash, but you may still suffer a related injury.

Even if the injury seems minor, you should contact your insurance company and a motor vehicle accident lawyer right away. The severity of soft tissue injuries common to car accidents is often only apparent some time later. Since the time you have to file a suit is limited, you want to be safe rather than sorry.

  • If you are involved in a car accident, the effects to your health may not be immediately obvious.
  • It can take time for doctors to diagnose a car injury properly and determine whether it will lead to a permanent disability.

Rather than waiting for this determination to be made and running the risk of losing the right to seek compensation for injuries and lost wages from the at-fault driver, an accident victim should contact a car accident lawyer right away.
