An Oakville woman was charged with impaired driving causing death after a nasty head-on car accident in October. A woman, the passenger in another car, was killed when the vehicle she was in was hit by a car that was driving the wrong way westbound on the 407 near Highway 403. The Oakville woman was driving the car going the wrong way and was charged with criminal negligence causing death and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death in addition to the impaired driving felony.
This comes after a similar incident that occurred just last August. In it, a man was killed after another drunk driver was driving the wrong way on a major highway. Citizen’s groups are calling for more “wrong direction” signage to potentially combat the issue.
You Never Know
You may get behind the wheel of your car every day without incident. But, even though you may be taking appropriate precautions and driving defensively, you never know about the other drivers on the road and what their situation might be and unfortunately, sometimes that means you are involved in a motor vehicle accident that is entirely outside of your control to prevent.
It’s a traumatic time and you may be tempted to just “get back to normal” as quickly as you can. But – be careful.
Remember:
- If you are involved in a car accident, the effects to your health may not be immediately obvious.
- It can take time for doctors to diagnose a car injury properly and determine whether it will lead to a permanent disability.
Rather than waiting for this determination to be made and running the risk of losing the right to seek compensation for injuries and lost wages from the at-fault driver, an accident victim should contact a car accident lawyer right away.
